On April 26th, 1956, an invention by transport entrepreneur Malcom McLean revolutionized our industry when 58 metal boxes set sail 🛳 from Newark to Houston. It was…the shipping container.

The standardization of the specification of these boxes allows for cargoes to be transported from anywhere to anywhere, between ships, terminals, and trucks more efficiently. Getting all these complex pieces in the entire ecosystem to click took an enormous amount of persistence and hard work. And the impact, as we now know, was a complete revolution in global trade.
